Signposts in our Journey Through John's Gospel

As our church embarks on an in-depth journey through the Gospel of John, we want to commit to memory Scriptural signposts along the way... Here is the first one!

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. -John 1:14

Scripture memory embeds these beautiful truths in our hearts so they are readily available in our minds. They become our companion and our anchor, on good days and bad.

For example, the biggest book in the Bible located at the center of the Bible, begins by emphasizing the Bible!

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. -Psalm 1:1-2

The book of Joshua begins with a similiar emphasis:

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. -Joshua 1:8

Paul encourages the believers in Colossae to dwell rich on the words of Christ:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. -Colossians 3:16

Author Jerry Bridges put it this way, "The word, stored in the heart, provides a mental depository for the Holy Spirit to use to mediate His grace to us, whatever our need for grace might be." Corrie Ten Boom once said, "Gather the riches of God's promises. Nobody can take away from you those texts from the Bible which you have learned by heart."

We hope you embark on this journey of Scripture memory in John with us!
