What is the Gospel?

What is the Gospel?

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. –Romans 1:16

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the hope of the world.

In the Greek New Testament the word "gospel" is the translation of the noun euangelion, meaning "good news." The Greek word euangelos, translated as "evangelist,” describes one who brings a message of victory meant to cause great JOY among the people. The Gospel is good news and Christians are called to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ to every nation.

In a world where the headlines on newspapers and the images on the nightly news are filled with bad news, Christianity proclaims the best news the world has ever heard!

The Gospel proclaims there is life everlasting, there is forgiveness of sins, there is hope in despair, there is peace in turmoil, there is power to change and there is meaning to life – and it is all through Jesus Christ! Trusting not in ourselves for salvation, but in the atonement of Christ on the cross, Christians proclaim a message of salvation by grace through faith.

The Bible says… You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:6-8

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. -Ephesians 2:8-9

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. -1 John 2:1-2

All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith." -Galatians 3:10-11

This is the good news of our faith. Christianity is not about a demonstration of what we can do for God, but a proclamation of what God has done for us. Due to our sin, rebellious humanity deserves the wrath of God. But because of His mercy, God sent His only son Jesus Christ into the world to redeem those who put their trust in him.

We ask you to choose Jesus today! Believe in Him as your Savior and Lord. Turn from your sin, return to the Father and receive the eternal life only Jesus can give.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. –Acts 4:12
